Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation Review

Combat under eye circles, redness and other skin imperfections with this full coverage, water-resistant foundation plus concealer in one.
A no mess, no drip pump dispenses just the right amount of fluid needed to achieve a flawless look and works around the clock to keep skin looking naturally perfect!

First Impression:
The first time I tried on this foundation was in front of my camera, filming a first impression video. I had thought that the consistency wouldn't be that different from other liquid foundations I've tried so I used the amount I normally would - 2 pumps (WAY TOO MUCH) 😜

After editing the video, I decided not to upload it because I wasn't happy with the lighting and the foundation just looked too heavy. If I had posted that video up, it wouldn't have been an accurate representation of how I feel about the product.

Texture: Thick
Consistency: Tacky/Sticky because your girl honestly put on too much 😂
Coverage: Full

After filming, I had decided this is a bad foundation and sent it to imprisonment in the makeup drawer for a good two months. HAHA.

Subsequent Application:
Somehow I was determined to make it work again, possibly because of the coverage it gave - I just can't seem to get over how full coverage it was. So I started to use it for work in the morning, only this time - with much lesser product.

Method:
  • Apply the foundation like how you would with a concealer - pea-size amount and dot all over your face or areas that need more coverage.
  • Blend.
  • Apply more 'dots' of foundation only if you need more coverage.

Final Review:
Okay I like this foundation especially on days when I'm going to the gym. Typically, I don't remove my makeup after work before I head to the gym. So yes, I workout with a full face of makeup. 😂 And no, I personally don't think doing that causes more breakout - but that's another topic which I might write about.

This is definitely a full-full coverage foundation. If you are dealing with scarring or hyperpigmentation, this is one product you have to try. It can feel a little heavy on your face if you use too much so a little goes a long way for this one.

Texture: Matte
Consistency: Slight tackiness without setting with powder but overall, feels comfortable on skin
Coverage: I still get full coverage using minimal amount
Repurchase? Probably not just because there's been quite a few releases from different brands offering medium to full coverage and having a lightweight feel to the skin - this to me is more important.

Decided to upload selfies to show you how it looked in real life.
Hopefully you could tell that the color was a little pink for me. My face looked greyish compared to my neck and chest.

November

14 November 2017
Don't forget that you're living a new life.

Instead of writing how my November went, I want to write words of encouragement!
-
As I’m writing this, it’s only 14 November, two weeks had gone by pretty quickly. I started this month with gratitude and a refill of grace and love for the work I get to do at work. I genuinely feel that that itself was an overflow of October. October had been tough, tougher that I expected it would be.

Sometimes you feel like giving up on having faith that things can be better, that what you see is what you’re gonna have from now on. That’s such a scary thought, I don’t want to believe that what I see (a puddle of mess) is what I’ll have for the rest of my life.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. – Hebrews 1:1 (NJV)

Cling onto the faith that made you new.  Hold fast to the truth that the world doesn’t define us but Christ alone. Press in with your prayers knowing that He has begun His good works as you speak to Him about your worries.
-
I pray a lot.
As in I mumble a lot to Him.

See your life as a form of worship to God. On good days, I do that very well, giving thanks to the Lord for all things in my life. On bad days, I just want to turn off that radio and cut off all comms with Him.

Sometimes, praying in words stresses me too. Like I’m repeating my circumstances in my mind. Yes, I commit all that to God but sometimes after praying, I still feel that tinge of bitterness.

So I pray in tongues.

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ – 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV).

Praying in tongues is how I bring my thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Try it, in the midst of thinking about your worries, finances, work or relationships, start praying in tongues in your mind or praying out loud. Immediately your worries of the world stop spreading within your mind, and you focus on the heavenly language that God our Father has gifted us to have an intimate conversation that Him.

Praying in tongues is the closest I feel to Him at times and I’m so thankful that  I find my way back to Jesus each time I pray in tongues.

-
Remind me that Jesus is ever-present and that He is closer than the air I breathe.

Jubilee, My Restoration

This is great. This has became a biweekly update. I'll be publishing this once I finish up. God has exceeded my expectations and answered my prayers in many ways this year. He has impressed me with His mighty works and blessed my heart exceeding abundantly over the past two weeks of November and I feel so undeserving.

I'm excited about Christ and unashamed to express it.

Truly, never give up praying and talking to Him about your needs, wants, hopes and wishes. If you care about these things in your heart, trust that it mattered to Him in a way you cannot possibly comprehend. Because He was willing to give up His only Son for you. (mind blown)
No man is willing to sacrifice his son for you to live.

But God is no man. He is the lover of our soul.

-
Over these two weeks, I wanted to get myself out of a certain situation and I've been praying about it. Trust it. Even though I know in my heart God is stretching me and He wants to work in me. Woah, but I'm so stubborn. And that's tiring to be honestly. Letting go is never easy. Losing control is like losing the game.

But I want to let go and I find Jesus in His Words.

Do not be aftraid or discouraged because of this vast army.
For the battle is not yours, but God's.
2 Chronicles 20:15

2017 isn't over and is not too late to ask for your restoration.

How Fenty Pro Filter Soft Matte Foundation Look in Real Life?

Get ready for selfie show. 😂

Honestly I'm not sure why I'm allowing myself to post my selfies all in one post EXCEPT for the fact that I felt super confident with my skin whenever I put on this foundation.

All shots were taken in the car, as you can tell, there's variation of the amount of sunlight coming through as we drove on the road. And obviously while Jasper's busy driving, Imma get busy with my front camera. 😂

But sorry not sorry! I was able to take some pretty good shots to show how good the foundation looked on my skin.

My skin's definitely not as flawless as my selfie taken above in direct harsh sunlight. Any girl would know better than to take selfie under hard sunlight, but my skin looked sooo good! To me at least! I had that suntanned glow leh~~

Fenty Beauty Pro Fit'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation retails for SGD$50 in sephora.sg

Caudalie Cleansing Water vs Cleansing Lotion

Caudalie Cleansing Water:
A soap-free micellar water that attracts and traps dirt, oil, and makeup to gently remove impurities and cleanse your complexion without drying out the skin. This micellar water uses molecules like magnets to lift dirt, oil, and makeup from the face and eyes, as it soothes, moisturizes, and softens skin. There’s no need to rub for a thorough cleanse—just a quick swipe—and makeup easily clings to the formula. refreshing feeling on skin and the uplifting fragrance from orange and lemon blossom, watermelon, and mint leaves. - Sephora.com

Review on Caudalie Cleansing Water:
I'm currently on my third bottle of the Cleansing Water and needless to say, I've really enjoyed using it. This is my second step to my skincare regime after cleansing my face with a foaming cleanser in the shower.

I've been using this as a toner to thoroughly cleanse my skin before applying moisturizer and other skincare products in the evening. The description given on the Sephora website is nothing but true for this product. It's very gentle on my skin and truly, I don't have to rub the cotton pad against my skin for it to do it's job. A quick swipe and any dirt/makeup would easily cling onto the cotton pad.

Caudalie Moisturizing Toner:

A purifying and moisturizing toner that boosts the effectiveness of your entire skin care regimen. This essential step to your skincare regimen, Caudalie's Moisturizing Toner removes final traces of makeup and impurities, while also balancing your skin's pH level, thus preparing your skin for any serum or moisturizer to follow. This toner also softens skin texture and supports skin's natural defense system over time. - Sephora.com

Review on Caudalie Moisturizing Toner:
I don't quite enjoy this for (double) cleansing my skin after shower, I still prefer the Cleansing Water. But! What I found out about the toner is that is works really well with facial mask!

The purpose of a toner (in general) is to prep the skin for maximum absorption or effectiveness of the skincare products you put on your face. Hence we usually apply toner before the serums and moisturizers.

What I noticed is that with this toner as a base for my facial mask, my skin was much more radiant as compared to putting the mask without the toner! I felt like the toner enhances the effects of the facial masks and allows better absorption of the moisture and goodness of the masks!

---

I wanted to make this comparison because the description of both products are really similar and I wanted to try them out and see what really sets them apart. I honestly think that you can do without either one since they serve different purpose as mentioned earlier. So I do really enjoy the Cleansing Water for removal of impurities and the Moisturizing Toner as a base for skincare products!

Product Feature | LUSH Mask of Magnaminty

LUSH Site Description:
This tingly, minty face and body mask was formulated to be intensely cleansing but never harsh or abrasive. Kaolin clay and peppermint oil rid your pores of debris, giving you a delightfully tingly clean sensation. We add loads of ground aduki beans to exfoliate flaky or dry skin, vanilla absolute to calm redness and honey to soothe and moisturize.
How to use: Smooth mask all over your skin. Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water, massaging as you go.

I've been enjoying this mask for the past two months and it's definitely my holy grail deep-cleansing mask. I had been using this mask on the daily whenever I noticed that my skin's a little bumpy or when I feel like I'm going to breakout soon.

That's definitely not the best way to use this mask as I've noticed that after consecutive days of applying it after shower, my skin has became dehydrated and dull. So don't be like me and go crazy with this acne-treating mask! 😂😳

Have a deep-cleansing mask day once or twice a week.

Having made this mistake of applying the mask on a everyday basis, I've changed my skincare routine to ensure that my skin stays hydrated after application.

Once I cleansed the mask off my face, I'll apply a thin layer of aloe vera to bring back some moisture for a good 30 minutes before I rinse off and apply the rest of the skincare products. That's just how I've been liking my routine. 😂

What I liked the most?

I really enjoy the application process, the mask feels luxurious with a minty scent and has a nice tingly feeling to the skin (just as they advertised). Upon application, you'd feel a cooling sensation on your face, it's almost like the skin is ready for good treat!

My Verdict?

Yes, I definitely wanna repurchase it once I finished my current tub.
Yes, I would recommend to those of you looking for a deep-cleansing mask for rainy days.

Colourpop Liquid Lipstick Swatches #2

Back with another swatch post and this time - it's liquid lipsticks from Colourpop! Woohoo~

The first swatch post I did on Colourpop was about a year and a half ago and as much as I've loved the colours that I'd gotten the first time round, I wasn't that impressed with the formulae. The formulae was thick and drying on the skin. And that was the reason why I sort of steered away from it and went on to try out the Kylie Jenner's Liquid Lipsticks.

Check out the first swatch post here - Colourpop Liquid Lipstick Swatches #1

After a year and half, I definitely feel that the formulae has improved and texture is definitely more consistency across the different shades they offer. My favorite formula is the Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick - they have a nice sheen to the color, it's not a moisturizing lip product but definitely not drying as well.

Calypso - Ultra Satin
Echo Park - Ultra Satin
Fresh Cut - Ultra Matte: Even though it's a matte formula, I don't find it drying on the lip.

Speed Dial - Ultra Matte
Mama - Ultra Matte
Love Bug - Ultra Matte

Out of these three colours, Mama and Love Bug is more drying on the lips. If you don't moisturise your lips well before application, it might look patchy after a while. You can see in my swatch that it looked patchy on the right end of the swatch.

---

The light shades are my favorites in my collection, I usually carry them in my bag for easy retouch and they go with any makeup look!

September Beauty Favorites!

September had been a month of testing numerous liquid foundations, wear tests on work days, crazy obsessed with some products and ultimate no-go for others. And because I'm still trying out the products I recently got, I'm not yet ready to call them out as my favorites yet.

We do have 5 products worth mentioning for the month of September though.

1. Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Liquid Foundation - 250

I'm calling this my Favorite Liquid Foundation of 2017 right here after using it for 3 weeks. YAS! Hey, mind you, I'm currently trying out at least 4 liquid foundations (including Fenty) for the past month and this had won the race amongst high-end brands like NARS, DIOR & Estee Lauder. (I'll share more on those liquid foundations soon i promise)

I have combination skin these days - oily T-Zone and dryness along my jawline. I didn't have an issue with this liquid foundation looking bad on me anyways - this is pretty much why I enjoyed this foundation so much!

2. Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencil

I've loved the Elf Eye Brow Kit since my poly days and I've stayed true and loyal to it for a long, long time. But recently, I've been a convert to no-fuss eyebrow pencil which gave me as much precision as a angled eyebrow brush (on its own). In fact, I have more good brows days since I started using the Etude House Eye Brow Pencil. Wohoo! (pumping the air)

3. Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Liner - Brown

This is what I call an oldie but a goodie. This had always been in my makeup drawer for a while, it wasn't until I lost my black eyeliner that I took this out to use. I have oily eyelids and this is possibly the only drugstore eyeliner that doesn't smudge and photocopy another line on my upper lids. Gurls, you know what I'm talking about. Sending major love notes to Rimmel for this!

4. Colourpop Single Eyeshadow - Sea Stars (Light Brown)

This color may seemed a little too light for my medium skintone babes out there, but rest assured! This color is buildable to an intense dark brown (surprisingly) and you can definitely create a 1-eyeshadow look with this color. You can sprinkle a little pink shimmer eyeshadow for a girly too!

5. Colourpop Single Eyeshadow -Top Notch (Dark Brown)

I mainly use this to intensify the color on the outer corner of my eyes. The great thing about Colourpop's eyeshadows is that they are really pigmented and less is more when you blend. Lurve~

Lookbook | Make Me Blush

25 years old and still experimenting different styles and pushing my limits. I like it.

Okay fine. Haha. Honestly there isn't a need to start this post with my age but I just had to. 😂 Sometimes I secretly (not anymore) tell myself - I would never want to lose this interest of dressing up even when it feels like I'm too old for that shit. Cuz feeling is different from being and I still wanna be interested and passionated about the things I love to do. And having Jasper to encourage me to keep doing what I love, e.g. shopping, with the most sincere face really does cheer me up and make a difference in how I should feel about myself.

Not sure where that came from but I just think it's really important to be you and to feel good about it. 😉💫

This dress really did it to make me feel insecure with my arms. I didn't know I was insecure until I put on this dress. 😂 But I kid you not, after I got this dress, I got really motivated to workout rn.

Lookbook | Slogan Tee Woohoo!

Yes you guessed it. I'm currently obsessed with slogan tees!

I'm in the process of hoarding a bunch of slogan tees on asos.com and Taobao, thank you very much. 😂 I'm starting to think that they are my kind of statement piece in the wardrobe? A little attitude, sometimes sarcasm but understated. You know. 😂😏

I got this "Female Feminist" tee on ASOS and I really liked it! The apparels that ASOS carries go out of stock so quickly every single time honestly, who can keep up. By the time I make a decision to buy it, my size 8 has already went oos, and I got a size 10 instead. But it works for me, I like my tee loose rather than fitting.

Can I also just point out that I'm a really slow decision maker when it comes to buying clothes online? I mean buying makeup is different, there's no size, just colors and it makes carting out a lot easier - hence the usual/casual impulse purchases WHICH nonetheless I still make full use of them. Okay? (just had to put it out there. 😛)

But when it comes to buying clothes on ASOS or TB, I can take months to complete one purchase. You can ask my friends about it. We'll be texting about clothes and I'll be grumbling that I still haven't got that pair of shoes I wanted (and still in my cart) since July. No kidding.

Oops, feeling a little long-winded today.

Top: ASOS omg it's oos, but you can search 'slogan t-shirt' for more options!
Jeans: Topshop

A unglam shot to end the post. Hehe.

Weekly Feature | Colourpop Yes Please Palette Swatches

After doing this swatch post, I've officially concluded that it's a skill that not many possess and definitely takes practice to perfect the swatches. Even though I'm quite satisfied with the swatches I did, I still think that it could be better.

Nonetheless, my priority for these swatches is that the color must be as close as what I see in real life. So there you go...

I'm really impressed with the pressed shadows. Honestly. I have a couple of their Super Shock Shadows and thought these can't possible beat it but I over the past few weeks that I've had the Yes Please Palette, I've had so much use out of it!

The pressed shadows are pigmented and blends easily with either a eyeshadow brush/fingers. I do prefer to apply the shimmery colors like Bling, Butter Coke & Chauffeur with my ring finger. I find that I get a better color payoff that way.

The matte shadows are my lurve! I pretty much have all the colors I want in one palette - corals, mauve-y red, browns and the occasional shimmery colors! 💘

Disclaimer: Again the lighting varies from photo to photo in order to truly reflect their colors. 💁

Weekly Feature | Is tea tree oil good for acne?

Is tea tree oil good for acne?

Tea tree oil provides excellent skin treatment, especially for oily and acne-prone skin. Various studies have shown that tea tree oil is as effective as the commercially used benzoyl peroxide to reduce acne.

1.       Tea tree oil consists of antibacterial and antimicrobial compounds that act effectively against the bacteria that cause acne breakouts.
2.       This essential oil can penetrate deep into the skin and helps to unblock the sebaceous glands. This unclogs the pores, thus disinfecting them and reducing acne.
3.       It also works as a solvent as it removes dust and grease easily and protects the skin from oxidative stress. (Read more here)

I’m really excited to start a new series on my blog called Product Feature! I'll be posting every Fridays so keep a lookout for product features of my latest finds!

-

The New Zealand road trip has obviously inspired me in many ways and one of them is to bring life to my blog again! It’s kind of been a journey where I resuscitate this blog every other month with a flash of words or photos and deadline it again. So hopefully, with a weekly product feature, I can keep it pulsing steadily.

Having read the use of Tea Tree Oil above, I want to dive into a short story on how I got started with trying out tea tree oil. Surprisingly (not), I started applying it only during the New Zealand trip. I had forgotten to pack my trusty OXY5 for my acne-prone skin and my skin had been reacting to the change of environment when we arrived in New Zealand. Such a bummer.

Anyways, I went to their pharmacy hoping to look find OXY aka Benzoyl Peroxide to curb my pimples. The range of skincare is shockingly minimal unlike what we have here in Singapore. Then I saw the bottle of Tea Tree Oil on the shelves and I vaguely remember that it was another alternative to treat pimples. So I purchased it and tried it on my skin.

This is the TTO that I purchased at New Zealand, a quick google search will direct you to their official website, Amazon to buy the products and reviews of others who have tried it.
-

On the road

I applied it after applying toner and nothing else on the first night to test if my skin was allergic to it. I was really pleased that my pimple bumps visibly subsided and redness also reduced overnight!

I continued to apply religiously through the week while I was in New Zealand and guess what, my face seemed a lot calmer with fewer/no visible pimples bulging on the surface!

Back in Singapore

There’s no doubt that I wanted to incorporate TTO to my skincare routine when I’m back home.
So here’s the sequence of my current routine.

1. LUSH Tea Tree Oil Toner Water
2. Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil
3. Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet
4. Wild Fern's Manuka Honey Eye Serum

Things to note:
  • Over-applying the TTO on problem area could result in overall dehydration of your skin, causing the skin to peel/flake
  • Apply sparingly after toning, followed by other skincare products like moisturizer
  • Since it’s have antiseptic properties, I like to use it as a skincare barrier BEFORE putting on makeup. (toner, TTO, moisturizer, sunscreen then makeup)

It's a good thing we like to take photos

It's not easy building a relationship from scratch, to share and get to know and to walk the different journeys with someone else. Meeting the other person on the halfway mark seems easier said than done. And it takes practice.

No one ever got it right the first time – how to manage difference in values and opinions, how to skilfully avoid misunderstanding using the right words in the right tone. It really takes time and communication and of course patience to be in a committed relationship.

Sounds like I had a rough 4-year relationship with Jasper looking at the intro. Haha. I don’t! I was just thinking back on the 4 years we spent together and that's one of those few things I learnt.

-

It’s a good thing we like to take photos. Making this collage was pretty easy, I just had to look back to my old Instagram photos to retrieve the selfies based on the time stamps and viola! A milestone collage! :D

We were at different seasons of our lives whether we know it or not, and these past four years has truly been fruitful. From driving him to camp to him driving me to and back from work, or from spending most of our time together through the week to being adults where we spend our time (proportionately haha) hanging out with friends separately.

Right now, I feel like we know what exactly we value in life as a couple and also what we seek out individually, for him perhaps – career and for me – quality time with family.
-

To best days ahead.
Happy 27th Birthday Love!

Lookbook | Frilly dress

Can you believe it?! This is really my first truly girly dress I own! Hmm, I’m usually a jean and shirt kind of girl. Friends who hang out with me regularly would know. I don’t deviate much from that except special occasions like a wedding dinner – which means super rare. 😂

Yes I got it from Taobao! This isn’t the first dress I got from Taobao and honestly it’s usually a hit-or-miss. I meant like okay, it’s kind of a duh-thing - if it’s not a hit or miss then what else Lydia? But knowing my body shape, I tend to stir away from buying clothes online in any case, so it's really rare when a dress or top fits nicely on my body.

On my lips: Kylie Jenner Liquid Lipstick - Posie K
Earring: 6mm Silver Hoops
Heel: Black Stilettos from Nastygal.com
