How I Whiten My Teeth | Smile Brilliant

6 May 2016, Friday

Look what came in the mail yesterday! The Smile Brilliant Tray Creation Kit!

I'm really excited about this simply because I've never tried teeth whitening kit before. I'm one of those who find going to a dentist for whatever reason intimidating. I guess they never really tried to take that fear out of you when you're in primary school. I'm pretty sure all the kids have had the experience of lining up outside the dentist office, waiting to go in for a dental check. Woo so terrifying.

That was a little ramble but anyways, going to the dentist to have my teeth whitened was never an option I would consider, considering that fact that I'd like to stir clear of the dentist office at all cost and it's insanely expensive. Google search tells me that it typically falls in the range of  $400 to $500 locally.

But who doesn't want to have a nice set of white teeth? (ramble #2) One of the things I dislike about being in Singapore is the lack of countless foreign brands in store. In the States, going to the Drugstore is like going into a treasure trove. You can find pretty much anything there. And my point of saying this is that you could easily get a DIY-at-home teeth whitening kit if you put your heart into finding it in the Drugstore. Not in Singapore.

So my point again is, you have to find them online and I might have just found my future birthday present to friends, Christmas gift & anniversary gift to Jasper. Haha.

The Real Deal

Since I've never tried any other whitening kit before, it would be unfair to say that Smile Brilliant's kit is the best. But it definitely works. How about that. :)

For what it's worth, you get a custom fitted teeth whitening tray that you get to keep permanently.

This is what you get when you make your order.
  • You have 3 sets of impression material to make your own dental impression. You have the third set just in case you did it wrong the first time.
  • 2 Impression trays for upper and lower dental impressions
  • 3 whitening gel syringes

Let's talk about price point because it matters.

This kit cost USD$119.95 and shipping cost USD$29.90. So to have them in your hands, it will cost  about SGD203. For those of you who are slightly price-sensitive, this is honestly a really good deal as I mentioned that a whitening treatment will cost more than $400.

It's a DIY-at-home kit which means you don't have to make a trip down to the dentist to have your teeth whitened. Instead, you could stay home and have them done at your own leisure.

You get a custom fitted whitening tray that you could reuse and if you need to replenish your whitening gel syringes, they are readily available on the website as well.

19 July 2016

This post is really a long time coming. I had received my impression during end of May and here I am in mid-July, completing this review.

The reason why I took this long is mainly because of my sensitive gums. After my first treatment, I had ulcers on my upper gums and sides of my cheeks. BUT that's only because I had used too much whitening gel the first time.

I realized that the trick was really to use the whitening gel sparingly because you only need that little for it to take effect.

First treatment definitely felt like a teething period. Unsure of what to do in the beginning and what to expect.

As you can see, after the first treatment, there is spots of white stains on my yellow teeth.

For me, the process of whitening is slow and gradual. I had them in my mouth for one hour for each treatment. (again because of my sensitive gum)

I would also use the desensitizing gel after my treatments to rehydrate my teeth.

It was only until I finished my first whitening gel syringe did I see visible results.

Yes, my teeth are still slightly yellow but they started to whiten visibly!

Final Result:

If you do a quick scroll upward or slide upwards if you're using your mobile phones, you'll see the difference before and after the treatment.

Life #7

Hello stranger.

This week has been one of those that I feel lethargic and depressed about. Even though it's only Tuesday now.

I just came back from Phuket not too long ago. Specifically last Sunday afternoon. My brother took quite a few of his close friends, Jasper and I to Phuket for a surprise proposal for Georgina. That was the happy part of the trip. But quite a few of us has been trying to nurse a bad stomach for a couple days now, during the trip and since coming back from the trip. Which is depressing.

Monday was absolutely uneventful for me. Slept most of the day away. Again, nursing the intense stomachache. Felt like I was getting a stomach flu again. Had that last month. Not fun at all.

Today (Tuesday) wasn't that bad. I'm slowly picking myself up, trying to feel better/awake by putting on makeup, plan a few outfits, take photos. Jasper and I are going to catch Now You See Me 2 in a bit.

And that would sum up what's current.

I was looking back at Life #6 and was reminded of the interviews I went previously.

I went for a couple of interviews between then and now. I mostly just carry a light heart when I go. I see it as a "great if I got it" otherwise "the delay meant a better one ahead".

This is me right now. Thinking hard about what else to share while I'm at it. I usually come with reflections or just a particular topic that I want to talk about. Today isn't one of those days.

I've been telling myself that I'll start vlogging for months now and I still haven't got around doing it. Which, I'm really frustrated about. Like I really want to capture moments and be able to keep it. I was looking at videos Jasper and I took when we were traveling and even random clips of us going to ubin to cycle. It brings back a lot of memories and makes me wanna kick myself to bring out the camera shamelessly and film!

Okay, pinky promise with you! reading this now. I'm going to upload the videos Jasper took when we went to Ubin. It was a shag day for me. I'll let you guys know when it's up. :)

Also, I swear (so serious now cuz I'm mad at myself for procrastinating) I'm going to start vlogging tomorrow!

That said, I'm going to charge my camera now.

Bye stranger. I'll talk to you again.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation Review & Demo

Hey my loves!

I am a liquid foundation shopaholic.

Just needed that disclaimer.

I just wanted to pop by and say hello. No just kidding. I didn't plan to put this up on my blog. Usually I don't repeat what I have on my Youtube channel on my blog. Simply because it's repetitive if anyone of you have seen my video, you probably don't want to see this on my blog again.

But of course, I love to share what I feel is useful for girls out there who love their makeup stash. So I felt that checking out this liquid foundation review would be helpful for those of you on a lookout (again) for awesome liquid foundations.

To make this read quick and digestible (MacBook says there's such a word), I'm going to point out a few things about this liquid foundation.

1. Liquid Foundation Most Comparable To This
That would most likely be NARS Weightless Luminous Liquid Foundation. My shade in that was Barcelona. The consistency and texture are pretty similar and both felt really weightless on the skin. Hence great for layering it up for a better coverage.

2. Does it live up to the claims on the box?
So what it claims on the box is that, 1. It blurs your imperfection 2. Medium to full coverage 3. Makes your skin look smoother. Checked all of them! And a huge Yes!

3. See the demo
One of many things that I love about Youtube is Review and Demo videos. Especially the demo part, honestly, just because I get to see how the product really works on others and it's a better gauge to see if it'll suit me as well. So click on the video and watch the demo!

That's all for now!

Red Lips for Asian Skintone!

Finding the right red lip colour can be pretty intimidating at first, especially so when you're just beginning to experiment with makeup and figuring out the right colours for your skintone.

I guess before buying any type of makeup, you need to know your undertone. The skin's undertone is the warm, cool, or neutral hue that shows through the surface color of skin. To keep things real simple, you can use jewelry to find out your undertone.
  • If gold jewelry complements your skin more than silver, you most likely have a warm undertone.
  • If silver jewelry complements your skin more than gold, you most likely have a cool undertone.
  • If (lucky you) both complements your skin just as well, you have a neutral undertone! Which means shopping for makeup is less of a headache as compared to others.

Why is this important when I pick out lip colors?

Did you know that lipsticks have different undertone as well?
Ever bought a red color that just doesn't look quite right on your face?

It honestly took me ages to finally figure out that I have a neutral undertone. Initially, it seemed pretty easy to decide, considering that I have an olive skintone and gold jewelry looks better on me. But undertone sometimes changes depending on the amount of sunlight you're exposed to and such, so when my tan got lighter, silver jewelry doesn't seem that bad on me...

My point is, it takes a lot of trial and error to figure out the right colors and I actually wasn't planning on rambling on about undertones but this is my platform to share what I know. :P

Anyways, back to the subject.

I did a video awhile back on red lips for asian skintone, specifically skintones similar to mine. But since I mentioned that I have a neutral undertone and if you fall under any one of the spectrum, you could consider my options and try them out yourself.

The three red colors that I mentioned in the video is:

1. LA Girl Flat Pigment Gloss in Obsess

2. Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Avenue

3. MAC Matte Lipstick in Russian Red

Personal Opinion:

Number 1 : Obsess is a classic red that isn't too intense and more suitable for everyday wear. It's honestly not a difficult red to wear and I could totally imagine girls with a fairer skin tone rocking this.

Number 2 : My personal favorite. Okay, it's really intense but if you check out my video and see how it looked, you'll feel that same. It has this cool illusion that my lips looked somewhat velvety and I just really like how it's so in-your-face-i-dont-care-cuz-it's-too-pretty

Number 3 : This option is for those of you who don't quite like the liquid lipstick concept and prefer the good old lipsticks. It's really similar to Avenue, just not as intense as it.

Hope everyone's had an awesome Sunday by the way. ❤︎

I'll see you on Instagram!

Lookbook | Sweater Weather #2

I've waited so long for another sweater weather! Cold & Rainy > Hot & Sunny. Period. Always.

Somehow my mind and my wardrobe refuses to acknowledge the fact that we're pretty much always hot and humid. (the humid part i hate) Whenever I go shopping, I find myself gravitating towards the soft and cozy cotton and knitted pieces.

And whenever I head out with my friends and they see me in one of these, they'll be like, "Aren't you hot?" My usual reply would be, "Okay la. Not so bad. Peace in mind." Haha.

That's how far I'll go with them. ❤︎

I have this white skirt from Pomelo Fashion for a while now and just haven't got around wearing it out. One of the reason I steer away from buying bottoms online is that there's always a high risk of it not fitting me and it just hangs weird on the side. You feel me?

But I never had a white skirt before and it was only $27. Had to give it a shot right? :)

And honestly, I really liked it. The slit cuts perfectly and I think it compliments my tan legs. It's a pretty cool color-block. Hehe.

The green sweater shouldn't be unfamiliar on this blog. I've worn it to death already but I'm just so in love with her! I wanted to do preppy with this lookbook but I changed my mind and went for a slightly casual brunch date look just cuz it's more comfortable.

The skirt was hanging a little weird of the side so the length of the sweater covered up pretty well.

Before I sign off, quick question. Do you like my shades?

I've recently launched my online store selling accessories - click ❤︎
And I'm thinking of bringing shades as well. What do you think? Leave a comment and let me know!

Kylie Jenner Lip Kits Swatches

I've been wanting to share my KJLK aka Kylie Jenner Lip Kit story with you and I finally sat down to  film this lip swatch! Woot woot!

To be honest, I wasn't planning on getting any lip kits in the first place. I just didn't think I would be able to get any even if I tried, considering that these lip kits go out of stock within minutes. So I've been putting off the idea to get them since she released the news that she was launching her lip kits.

I was really tempted to buy, don't get me wrong. I mean who wouldn't want to own one especially if you're a makeup fanatic (like me). Then I chanced upon @brokebypayday on Instagram, she have an amazing makeup flatlay feed by the way. So if you love looking at makeup flatlay and seducing yourself to go to Sephora, go check her out. ❤︎

Anyways, she had a blog post on how you can actually own a KJLK. Of course I had to check it out and I did. Which only tempts me further and I started to flirt with the idea to wake up 7am in the morning, hogging onto the website to wait for the restock.

After reading her blog post, I was determined to do exactly just that. And of course I did, otherwise we wouldn't be here, looking at my somewhat narcissistic lip swatch photos. :)

I currently own more than a dozen liquid lipsticks from three different brands and I have to say, the Kylie Jenner Liquid Lipsticks are the best amongst the three brands. They were really smooth on the lips and has a thin consistency unlike other liquid lipsticks that I've tried.

If you're considering to buy them, here's a little advice:

1. I have a medium skin tone and I find that most of the shades I got looked pretty good on me with the exception of Koko K. Koko K is a pale pink that isn't quite as complimenting on tanner skin tone as compared to other colors. If you see the picture below, I looked washed out.

2. If you love your nudes, Candy K & Dolce K is your best bet.

3. I know that Carousell is selling these Lip Kits as well. If you only want to get one lip kit, I'll say find a trustworthy seller whose selling at $60 each and get it. Save the trouble to wake up real early on a weekday and pay someone else to do it for you.

Why? In USD, the lip kit cost $29 and shipping is $14.95, which cost USD43.95 = SGD59

But if you want to get more than one lip kit, make the effort to go online and add them to the cart yourself because you'll paying multiple lip kits for a single charge of the shipping price.

And trust me, the adrenaline rush is surreal when you buy them yourself! It felt like such an achievement. Hehe. ❤︎

I hope this is useful for those of you who are still flirting with the idea of getting them. I honestly think that they're not as difficult to get as compared to when it was JUST released. (insert smirky smiley)

Lookbook | Bring In The Slacks

Haven't been out lately and that pretty much sums up my reason for the lack of lookbooks on my blog. :( I'm sad. I've been a homebody for the past couple of months and it can get really boring at times.

But let's look on the bright side. ❤︎

I went online shopping a few days ago, spent hours on my laptop and came to a conclusion that being physically there at the shop is less taxing than the mental imagination you have to put yourself through while online shopping. BUT I'm waiting for my parcel from ASOS! ❤︎

I've been working on my online accessories store, sourcing for statement pieces and loving the process. It's a lone mission but I love how I get to make decisions of my own. It's honestly still a work-in-progress but if you're interested to see what I'm bringing in, check out my carousel page - ❤︎

I finally got my Kylie Jenner Lip Kits! Woo woo! So excited to have them in my hands. I'll be writing  about them so stay tuned for that! ❤︎

Thinking about what I was going to wear for this lookbook reminded of the times where I would get really excited to head out for some shameless photos taken with Jasper. It still gets a little embarrassing when he takes my photos. Hopefully I'll pick my momentum back up and continue to be inspired to mix and match my outfits and of course, bug Jasper to take me out.

And also, can I just say that my official favorite color is Khaki Green. This pair of khaki green pants is the bomb. They're so comfortable. I found them at Forever 21, went to try them on, went to the cashier asap after getting out. They are my jam right now. Yes I mean jam like music jam!

A little close-up on some of the pieces I'm bringing it. I like them so much that I'm keeping the first pieces. ❤︎ Those stack rings is my current favorite right now, just because I've always been a arm candy more than a ring stacking girl. But now they are stuck to my fingers, they look so good together.

Also, I'm currently on the lookout for arm-candies loving instagram babes. Holla at me if you're obsessed with accessorizing your outfits, drop me a instagram message or drop an email to I'd love to sponsor you! ❤︎

NARS Limited Edition Lipstick & Eyeshadow

I'm super excited about this right here!

Now recently I've been swiping through ASOS App on mobile looking at NARS products. I was particular looking at the eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, bronzers and basically everything else. Look at my Saved Items below. Basically my life in summary. Right?

Then, it's like NARS could read my mind. They contacted me and wanted to send me some items for being a #NARSISSIST. (woohoo) I was already hyperventilating okay when I received their message. So I sent my details over and was going goo-goo by the door each day, waiting. Like waiting for your boyfriend but with much more anticipated. Ladies you feel me right?!

Not to misled you out there looking at my page, wondering if all four of products are limited edition.

Answer is no, not all.  Only two of them are.

1. Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Cressida

It's an electric blue color that would look really pretty with shades of brown on your eyelids. They have two other colors in Kari and Tarvos.

2. Lipstick in Rosecliff

Rosecliff is a dusty pink color with a slight sheen to it. I wore it today, it feels more like a lip balm than a lipstick. My lips rarely felt hydrated but it did when I had this on.

The Audacious Mascara was also gifted to me but it's not limited edition. :)

I bought the Dual Intensity Blush in Frenzy. Both the colors looked really intense in the palette but when it's swatched, the colors came off pretty gentle and looked wearable.

I chose not to adjust the light to make it brighten because the color is what you see if you're holding the palette.

That's all I have for you now. I'll most likely be doing a GRWM video on my channel soon to try them out so stay tuned for that!

Click on the words in bold and it'll bring you to the respective ASOS page! Happy shopping!

Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick Swatches

These Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks are the first batch of liquid lipsticks that I own and they are perhaps the best (impulsive) purchase I've made. ;)

I bought them off from Carousell and that was long before I wrote the previous post on my bad experience with preorder on Carousell. Check out my previous post - here

The two sellers that I bought from are @hey.vlala and @merolshopsg. Both of them have a good amount of positive feedbacks and were responsive with questions regarding the order online. If you're interested to buy them and have it in your hands within 3-4 days. Go check them out.

Prior to purchasing, I went online to look at some of the swatches available to get an idea of what colors I wanted to get. I honestly find that going on Youtube is the quickest way to see swatches since most Youtube would buy a bunch of them and apply on their lips to show you. Plus, you would definitely be able to find one with a similar skin tone as yourself.

But of course, if you want to have a quick glance at the colors, that's when you google and see if there's any beauty website that have good swatches of the colors.

I'll continue blabbling on in a bit but I'll show you the colors on its own in the bottle first.

Proud to say the colors you see above is as true as can be in real life. ;)

Okay, besides the fact that I really am a hoarder who buys a bunch of lipsticks at one go, there are others reasons as to why I bought them at one go. Haha.

1. Because I'm buying on Carousell, the cost of shipping is determined by the number of purchases I made. I knew I really liked those colors and there's no need why I would want to pay for registered postage numerous times. It's just not very cost-efficient.

2. Second reason is a no brainer - I simply like the colors and want one of everything. And I knew that I'm gonna use every single one of them in time. Out of the 9 that I bought, the only two colors that I'm not that into for now are Scrooge and Bad Habit. Not really into pink-pink for now if you know what I mean.

One thing to take note is that the colors you see in the bottle is one or two shades lighter as compared to the actual color when you apply on your lips. See the comparison below.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick Swatches

That's all I have for you today! If you want to see the colors on my lips, there's a swatch video on my Youtube channel. Click on any photos above to be directed there!

My Bloody Experience with Carousell

Unlike my usual happy mood when I write a blog post, this is me writing straight after talking to this seller and concluding that never in my life would I preorder anything from Carousell ever.

Geez of the Story:

I don't want to explain the story from start to beginning since my purpose of writing is to talk about the aftermath and precautions if you shop on Carousell pretty frequently.

So in short, I paid this seller for a preorder two months ago, and a preorder should not take longer than 4 weeks. By right. But of course, things didn't end up beautifully that way. Communication was fine up until the point after I transferred her the payment. From then on, I don't get updates from her and she take days to reply to a simple text like, "do you have any updates?" Up till now, I have never seen the confirmation email you would received if the seller has ordered on the website.

I never thought I would need to resort to threatening someone but I did. I was going to report her 4 weeks later because she seemed dodgey about showing me the confirmation email. So I told her I'm going to report to Carousell. And she didn't replied. Woman of my words so I emailed Carousell.

Reporting to Carousell:

Now this is the part that pisses me off the most. As a user, tell me if you would be pissed off reading this.

I can reply myself in 10 words: hi, sorry we can't do anything for you, suck it.

Or in less than 5 words: boohoo, suck it.

You see, I never intended to get my money back already because I see this as partly my fault for not doing my due diligence to pick the right seller and simply being too trusting.

So the point of me writing to them was to inform, warn and ask for their call of action. What's the point of having a 'Report User' function in your app when all you can do for your users is to copy and paste a template?

Your call of action was simply, hi, sorry we can't do anything for you, suck it. But you know what, I'm going to go the extra fucking mile for you and drop an email to the seller.

My blood hasn't boil for a long time so thanks.

Now, I'm still a user of Carousell and I like to buy and sell things there. I'm just particularly unhappy about the way they handle potential fraud and how they didn't speak of anything that says, we will investigate and warn Carousell users.

Because ultimately, I want others to know that this happened, don't be like me.

Beyond Pissed & Hope:

So it's officially 2 months since the transaction and I feel like I've been kind and patient enough to a non-responsive seller. I texted her 10 minutes ago and gave her an ultimatum.

I told her that I will be contacting the police if she doesn't reply by 3pm and sure enough, she replied immediately.

I wasn't kidding about reporting to the police by the way. Anyways, I'd already given up hope on her so if she return me my money and proof that she's not a fraud - awesome. If she doesn't - i'm gonna be the bad guy.

So let's work on a few do's and don'ts:

  • be like me of course
  • preorder with someone who doesn't have a string of positive feedbacks (i did)
  • bother with asking for assistance from the Carousell team
Just don't preorder on Carousell. You can buy just not preorder. Get it!

  • research my darlings
  • look at multiple sellers and be willing to buy at a higher price with a trust-worthy sellers and ready stocks
  • read through their feedbacks before making a decision to deal with them

I honestly did not enjoy writing this but it's important that people know. Like I knew that there were carousell scams but never really taken it seriously. Typically, we get complacent and shrug it off. (okay, just me being complacent)

Guess I paid for a lesson learnt. But it's okay. First and last. ❤︎

Sigma Affiliate Program | Welcome Gift

So recently I signed up for the Sigma Affiliate Program which I was really excited about. About a week ago I received a welcome gift from Sigma and I'm really excited about them!  I've taken them out of the box and used them already but I knew I wanted to share with you what I got so here it is!

In case some of you are wondering what an affiliate program is, here's a short description from the Sigma Website:

"The Sigma Affiliate Program is a partnership opportunity for those who enjoy our brand and products. Our program allows affiliates to share and promote their favorite Sigma products and earn money and other exclusive rewards at the same time. " - Sigma Beauty Affiliates

If you are interested and want to find out more about the program, click the link I created above or here.

I've always loved the brand and the brushes that they have and even though they are slightly pricey when it comes to makeup brushes but trust me, there are good reasons for it. Makeup brushes may seem like they are the easiest to purchase but they are really not. Depending on the type of eye look you are going for, there's different brushes for different purpose.

For me, Sigma brushes definitely made its mark with the quality and the functionality of the brushes. Having a right brush not only makes blending a breeze and definitely saves much of your effort in your makeup routine.

When I first opened the box, I felt like it was Christmas. ❤︎ I've always been a sucker for pretty packaging on my makeup products and I guess the box just made it extra special with the pinks and all.

(the handwritten card from Emma, my account manager, made this so sentimental!)

In the box

1. Aura Powder - Cor-De-Rosa
2. Line Ace - Black Eyeliner
3. Sigma Pink - Power Stick (omg this color I can't even)

I did a Spring Makeup Look using the Aura Powder and the Pink Lipstick and I'm really impressed with the quality and pigmentation. Emma picked the right shade for me with the Aura Powder, it was just the right shade of mauve with a slight pink tone for a blush for me. Thanks Emma!

And also, can I just say again that the packaging is so on point. And I'm going to get more Aura Powder. :)

Brushes (clockwise order in photo)
1. All Over Blend E37
2. Tapered Blending E40 (major love for this)
3. 3DHD Kabuki

4. Eye Shading Mini E55 (photo taken from here)

5. Sigma Spa - Express Brush Cleaning Glove

I've tried washing my brushes using the glove along with my trusty Daiso brush detergent. It does make rinsing and cleaning my liquid foundation brushes a whole lot easier. The stains comes off after a few minutes of rinsing using the glove. (I usually have to soak my liquid foundation brushes overnight to remove the stains completely.)
