Happy New Year | A Trip Down Memory Lane

I'm never one for celebrating national day or new year countdown in town or anywhere with lots of people hoping to see a glimpse of the fireworks. I've been there and done that over the past few years, and the squeezing and pushing just keeps me from even thinking about going to the club or orchard to countdown with the rest of the excited Singaporeans.

Don't get me wrong. I'm super excited about 2014 and I can't wait to see what it has got to offer. This past year has its ups and downs for me, personally. It was honestly not the best beginning I could ask for. My 21st was great. Family and friends gathering to catch up, not forgetting the drinking part. I met someone who would chase my dreams with me and be there whenever I need/ask. And thank god I didn't fail any of my uni paper because that would suck.

And most of all, I'm starting to do what I love.

Not many people could understand why I love makeup so much, why I get all passionate about it when others asks, why I'm into taking pictures (of myself, really) and why I couldn't take my mind off it. I remember I was having my exams, studying for my papers, but all I could think about was what I wanted to blog about and the makeup I wanted to play with. So I guess that's when I knew that this was something I want to do, probably for the rest of my life. And I shouldn't care much of what others would think/say about it because this is my life and I choose the way I want to live. So I started my own blog and film videos.

So at the end of the day, taking the first step is difficult but so necessary. Quit being in your little box, step out, be shame-less. Do something you ACTUALLY love doing.

Love,
Lydia

Dress-ing It Down

It was genuinely challenging to try to dress down this leopard print dress. I had this dress since the beginning of the year and had only wore it once so far. I really love this dress and I didn't want to put it to waste, leaving it in the wardrobe. So I decided quite some time ago that I was going to dress this down for more casual occasions.

I had to find the right pair of shoes and outerwear to match this dress. I knew that the shoes I picked would have to be slightly casual but at the same time, give me some height. Instead of going for strapy heels, I went with buckled boots. Also, with the military jacket, it definitely tonesdownthr feminity of the dress and have it a little attitude.

Here's a couple of shots that I actually seemed happy. :P

Wishlist: Checked

If you guys have seen my November post about the wishlist I had, you wouldn't find this pair of boots unfamiliar.

I fell in love the minute I saw it in the box! I've been kinda obsessing over it since I got it yesterday night. Been wearing it at home whenever I feel like it. It's really comfortable and doesn't feel stiff at all.

Cameron Highland

Been away for more than just awhile since my exams are over. I'm taking the advantage that I finally have the time to do the things I love! Being inspired, taking pictures, pairing outfits together, editing photos, blogging, making videos and trying out my eyeshadows palettes to create different look.

I went to Cameron Highland the day after I finished my exams so there really isn't much time for me to post anything in between. I've never been to CH, call me a country pumpkin. But after this trip, I'm never going there again. The bus ride is sucha killer. We spent more time in the bus than in any other the hotel rooms we stayed in.

But thank god Jasper is around, he made this trip so much more enjoyable.

And yes, this is my first lifestyle-ish post. Yeah!

(I didn't take much photos cuz I was so bummed by the long ride.)

(no I don't wanna take photos. *no makeup)

(just us being goofy)

(we went with a bunch of his cousins. *photobomb)
(#ootd?)

P.S.
I'm planning a few outfit ideas for the new year so stay tuned!

Modern Pin Up Girl

When I think of Pin Up Girls, I could only think about Dita Von Teese. She IS the classic Pin Up Girl. Red lips, black eyeliner and of course, a voluptuous silhouette that she's not afraid to flaunt. Pin Up Girls are fun, sexy and confident and I guess that's all a girl could hope for.

So I decided to give this look a shot since it's really not that difficult to recreate. And I honestly feel inadequate now that I see Dita's photo and mine together. BUT, here's my take on the classic Pin Up Girl look.

So what do you think?

Christmas Outfit #2

Alright, this is going to be a short-as-usual post. I'm supposed to be studying for my last exam that's on Wednesday. Supposed. But I'm not. Obviously. :) But I do have a good reason... I finished a paper today and usually I don't like to study after I get back home. I just feel really drained each time I take an exam. You need the 'feel' to memorize all that stuff. You know. If you're a student, I'm sure you 'feel' me. So I kind of gave myself a time-out for today. And start tomorrow. (totally being conversational here)

Back to the outfit today....

Today's outfit is all about this wrap skirt. I guess I was striving for a effortless look, throwing on a knitted crop top and keeping my accessories minimal. The textured pattern on the skirt added more interest to the look and it's definitely appropriate for date nights, retail therapy and of course, Christmas!

I LOVE IT.

Christmas Outfit #1

We only started celebrating for Christmas when my nephew and niece got a little older and knew that Christmas = Presents. It's as simple as that. Everyone in the family had to buy presents for the two kiddos and in turn, my sister and brother-in-law would prepare our presents. It also meant that I would have my feast (free food) at my sister's place.

But anyways, I'm pretty excited nonetheless cuz I can be a little fancy with my outfit for the occasion :D

I've been pretty obsesses with pattern skirts this year and this piece is one of my latest finds from H&M. I debated with the angel and devil in my head for awhile before purchasing it. It was retailing for $39.90 and I was skeptically on whether it was really worth it. (But I guess I bought it anyway)

I have a couple of skirts for H&M with this cut and they really slim down the hips and create this illusion like you weigh a few kilograms lighter that day. I went with gold details just because I love gold and they compliment my skin (so why not?)

Now, who can forget about the makeup? (Definitely not me)
I went with a gentle cut crease with eyeshadows from Urban Decay Naked 2 and I'm totally digging the minimal smokey eye. My boyfriend calls these everyday look - light smoke. You know, not that heavy smokey eye but just, light. :P

So here's a full shot to end this post!

All Matte | Smokey Eye

Matte colors will always be my favorite. There's definitely those days where I feel like trying a different everyday look and not the usual browns. So, it's always good to have a few matte eyeshadows to play with. They're really subtle and more of a understatement to me. So for today's look, I decided to ditch my eyeliner and my browns for my favorite color for a change.

In an attempt to kind of show you how I create this look. Here's what I used:

This is the palette that I used and it's very similar to the Coastal Scents' Warm Palette.

1. Crease: I used a Medium Brown color for a great transitioning color. It'll be easier to blend out the hard edges later with this.
2. Outer Corner: Followed by a Maroon Red color to increase intensity.
3. Outer Corner: I used a Dark Brown color along my eye line for more definition at the outer corner.
4. Inner Corner & Highlight: I used a Peachy color for highlight these two areas.
